I got a possession of marijuana charge… How long until I get my court paper??? Also since I quit smoking already (before court and prob.) will this help me during court since I can tell them I already quit because I just did it for fun and stopped when I got in trouble?

If you got a ticket there would most likely be a court date on the ticket, or if you were actually taken to jail (which they would definitely do in Utah!) they should have given you the info before you left. Either way, if you don’t know the date I would call the court IMMEDIATELY to find out when you have to appear so you don’t miss the date and get into further trouble.

As far as quitting smoking, great job! That will definitely look good in the eyes of the court. I would go to a local addiction counseling center and pay to get a drug test so that you can have paperwork to show the court when you appear. As general rules, respect and honesty with the judge go a long way. Make sure you have proof that you are working or in school (if you are, of course) because that can help reduce your sentence if they beleive you can be a functional member of society with little need of rehabilitation.
