How Long Do Most Rehab Programs Take?
Question by Zach Gagnon: How long do most rehab programs take?
A friend of mine had a huge drug problem and she is only 16. One night she overdosed and almost died. She was then court ordered to attend and complete a 15 month live in rehab program. That attempts to heal girls through Christian faith. Which is bad for her because she is an atheist. But I was just wondering if 15 months is a little too excessive. How long do most rehab programs last? And is 15 months normal? Also is their any chance she could be let out early? I really miss her.

Programs that are shorter are also typically not successful
if she is an atheist, then perhaps she is open-minded enough to allow other people in the program their own spiritual needs & spiritual path
I know you miss your friend, but she needs to complete this program
it would be best if she is not let out early
I am thankful that I have not been faced with drug problems… altered states of mind are scary to me
I have had many friends who have been through various types of rehab programs
One of those people was my best friend in high school, who also later became my husband
his parents sent him through 3 programs that were 90-day programs all between the age of 16 – 19… they worked for very short period of time; however, he simply didn’t develop the complete transformation necessary to fully recover & re-lapsed each time – he had never OD’d & was never court ordered…. they sent him because they hoped it would help
then, he got in trouble in college…. and they were faced with sending him again. This time, they found a program that was 12 months…. it was faith-based…. and it focused on working hard work when faced with drug desire….. essentially, any time you felt a craving you went out and dug piles of dirt…. an attempt at burning off the compulsion/desire for the drug & also associating the desire with something less pleasant
I missed him terribly every time he was gone… being gone that whole year was not easy….. and no one was allowed to call him or see him except his parents & that was only 1 time per week, if he earned it
The year-long program worked…. a few years later we got married…. he were able to celebrate his being clean for 10 years —- sometimes, he would go out & mow the lawn with a non-electric push-mower (the manual kind that is very small with a rolling blade) at whatever time day or night… even when the yard didn’t need it… this was his replacement for digging piles of dirt —- but it helped him get through
my point is this —– she needs this opportunity to be healthy
You need to love her enough to let her make whatever changes to herself that she needs to make in order to become a drug-free person, I know it isn’t easy, please try to find a way

that sounds illegal…a court cannot order someone into a christian program…the parent should have had a say–and if the parents are christian….they may have chosen to use a christian program.
15 months does sound excessive…..but not that much–i would think minimum would be 6 months….
you can try to report this place to the licensing authorities..but there is probably more to it then just healing through faith…
