Can Taking Too Many Hair Vitamins Make Your Hair Stop Growing? I Take Them Everyday?
Question by Jessica H: Can taking too many hair vitamins make your hair stop growing? I take them everyday?
I take hair/nail/skin vitamins, 3 a day because that’s the recommended dosage. I just started taking the kind you only have to take just once a day. I had a hair full of hair that came right past my shoulders and decided not to get anymore relaxers after August 2011. Starting in March of last year my hair began breaking off at the ends and has gotten shorter and shorter since then. Now it’s short SHORT and I no longer wear it straight because it’s so short. I wear it natural in an afro. I want my hair to grow back to my old length, but I don’t want to go back to getting my hair relaxed. I want to keep it in its natural state (no chemicals) straightening it with a flat iron or hot comb if I want to wear it straight. Anyway, I was wondering if taking hair/nail vitamins on a regular basis can keep your hair from growing. I use to have long healthy nails too and they don’t even grow anymore. I know it’s not due to my age b/c I’m only 26, turning 27 next month and I drink water often. I have ethnic hair by the way.

NEVER TAKE SUPPLEMENTS WITHOUT YOUR DOCTOR’S OK.
Heat & chemicals are hair’s worst enemies. Heat tampers THE GROWTH.
Relaxers contains formaldehyde causing cancer.
I answer thousands of questions a day, and the majority of those questions I answered, are WHY my hair doesn’t grow, WHAT foods, vitamins makes my hair to grow, or hair falls and BECAUSE of heat & chemicals.
The hair industry is a trillion dollar business, they sell products that cleans & condition the hair. They also sell products that damage and causes hair loss. They also DO NOT give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by ‘abuse’. Mechanical, chemical, or thermal styling. Hair straighteners and relaxers top the hair products pose the greatest risks. Hair relaxers, related products marketed heavily to African-American women, are dangerous because they may contain powerful chemicals such as lye, a toxic substance also used in drain cleaners.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t have to approve supplements — no agency in the United States does. Because of inadequate quality control and inspection, supplements contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, or prescription drugs have been sold to unsuspecting consumers. And FDA rules covering manufacturing quality don’t apply to the companies that supply herbs, vitamins, and other raw ingredients.
Beginning in February 2008, they experienced one symptom after another: diarrhea, joint pain, HAIR LOSS, lung problems, and fingernails and toenails that fell off. FDA has received numerous reports of harm associated with the use of these products, including stroke, liver injury, kidney failure, heart palpitations, and death. 3-15-11

According Dr. Melissa Piliang, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Americans spent an estimated $ 176 million on hair loss products last year, and chances are some of that money was not well spent. Don’t let charming salon owners, seductive ads or fancy gimmicks convince you otherwise.
CNN, Slate, Consumer Reports, MSN, YAHOO have posted them online for years how people spend $ 20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements. According to Everyday Health, here’s an article that will tell you why . . . those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK. It is false advertisements.

FDA can’t track down all of these fraudulent products, so consumers need to beware of unapproved products that make false claims. When in doubt about a product, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or other health care professional.
