get a steady job and start saving up money to get your own place.
if your in a group home im guessing its rehab? stick with it and stay off the drugs. dont leave until you are sure you are ready to stay off of drugs.
by the time you have enough money to pay for rent for the first few months, you’ll probably be 18 and have no problems when it comes to renting an apartment.

I moved out on my own when I was young, and it can be difficult. I would really explore all of your options before going out on your own at your age. If you decide there really is no other option, then first you’ll need to find a job. It’s not going to be easy in this economy, but apply for any position that you qualify for. If you’re attending school, do the best you can your senior year and apply for financial aid. If you’re not in high school right now, focus on getting your GED so you can still have an opportunity to earn more money and attend college in the future. The only way that you will benefit your situation for the long term is to make sure you complete your education.
If you’re able to find a job, save your money. Open up a free savings account, most online banks have free standalone savings. You’ll earn some interest and watching it grow will encourage you to keep savings and not spend. Calculate your possible bills for your area – NY is pretty expensive. Even basic utilities can cost several hundreds of dollars depending on what city you live in. Consider getting one or more roommates to help divide expenses. You can also look for ads of people looking for roommates. You have to be a good judge of character and ask a lot of questions during your interviews to ensure your living situation is ideal. You can use craigslist to find roommates and rentals.
Hope you find all of that helpful. Whatever you decide to do, good luck – hope everything works out for you.
