Question by nicoleiswater: PLEASE HELP ME! I NEED AN ANSWER IMMEDIATLY.. this is long so please bare with me.?
Hi. My name is Nicole and im 17 years old. When i was born i lived in Chicago IL for 15 years. But after my parents got divorced when i was 5, my dad moved around from states to states and i lived with my mom. My mother met a man when i was 12 that mentally abused me and physically abused my mother. When i was 14 my dad married a women in Kansas City MO. When i turned 15, i finally had enough of the abuse and moved in with my dad and stepmom. But because my stepmom had a severe crack addiction, they lost the house they had together and we had to live with her parents and my stepmoms two boys. I spent my sophomore year in Kansas City and absolulty loved it. I have a boyfriend (who which im still with) and we are deeply in love with eachother. But in the summer of 2007 my dad moved back to IL and got a job because he couldnt find one in Kansas City. My stepmom eventually moved in with him too with my uncle and aunt who drink and do drugs constantly. I argued all summer against my dad that i wanted to stay in Kansas City. In july i finally won and my stepgrandparents decided to keep me. So i started my junior year in peace in KC MO. But for some reason, my stepgrandma lost it and decided its best to live with my dad in IL. My dad called me on my 17th birthday to tell me that im moving at the end of December. I called my friends and everybody to see if they could take me in. But they couldnt. On Thanksgiving weekened, i was tricked. My dad wanted me to come and visit….but when i got here, my stepgrandma cancelled my train ticket back to KC. I was so hurt and betrayed! After talking to my boyfriend, his father’s mother wants to take me in. But in order to do that i need some legal documents done. For now, im stuck in IL, im not going to school. And i want to go back. I dont want to be around the drugs and constant drinking. Im a recovering Mary J addict. And i dont want to go back. His dad recommended Emancipation. But i need the paper work. At 17 i heard im able to runaway by law without parental consent. Both my parents disagree on sending me out there so i need government to get involved. I guess DCFS is good in that category…bottom line..i need some help.
I want to know if any of you have any knowledge on this and possibly a phone number or a direct link that can help me get back to Kansas City safe and sound with my boyfriends grandma…so then i can also go back to school. Thank you so much. Your help will be very much appreciated. =]

Nicole, I truly sympathize with the situation you are
in. Emancipation could be the way to go but you need to find out how to go about it. Look in the Yellow Pages or go to a search engine and look for a Legal Aid Society in the area where you live.
I don’t know about all states but I know that in some states the police don’t worry about 17 year olds. It seems ironic to me but I know of one situation where that was the case. Her parents couldn’t get anything done to help her because at 17 the legal system wasn’t too concerned.
I do hope you can find Legal Aid to help you. If
not, seek a pastor who may be able to guide you
or help you take the correct steps.
Your goals are good and the sooner you are away from the people abusing drugs, the better off you will be.
