Question by Puddy: What Addiction is, Essentially:?
When you get right down to the very root of it, isn’t the HEART of all addictions Imbalance?

Meaning, a lack of moderation/excess? The neuro-physiological in the brains chemical re-wiring that occurs notwithstanding?

Both in the Deeper, Spiritual sense as well as medically speaking?

no addiction is a weakness, people not wanting to face the reality of life , they cant cope so use escapism, like drink , drugs, etc to blot out feelings and memorys.

And they go on and on doing it unless they seek help to deal with there weaknesses, insecuritys, fears, or problems. Often then its too late.

All the information on it being on a defective gene, has not been fully proven, it was said to have been in a few tests done somewhere, but there is more information at present saying its not…

Either way the defective gene , maybe a reason some people are emotionally a little less stable than others and a reason they go for addictions. Who knows. But an addict , has issues running deep somewhere, even if they dont admit it.

Addiction is a behavior resulting from an urgent need that interferes with functional daily living. An addiction of praying that interferes with getting to work on-time. An addiction of alcoholic consumption that interferes with spending enough quality time with our children. An addiction of shopping that interferes with our ability to maintain a weekly budget and/or pay living expenses. An addiction to pornography that interferes with our ability to maintain our equilibrium or balance (as you have suggested) in our other facets in daily living such as taking out the trash, exercising, picking up Billy from school, preparing dinner for our family, studying or keeping our internet costs within our alotted budgets.
……………….
Yes, the inability to maintain balance with our lives. But also, aside from not only a chemical imbalance as it can also be the mere acknowledgment of lopsided activity that transpires from such urge…..can correct addiction. Sometimes the chemical imbalance as well as the cognitive realization of such behavior must be dealt with in order to remedy the addiction.
…………….
I know that I have an addiction with the internet. One day I bought a personal computer, with the premise that I would control its usage. The premise did not facilitate and I was submerged in internet addiction as I could not maintain my normal equilibrium with daily living. I was cognitively aware of this addiction and remedied it upon my returning the product back to the store within three days.
Some people can have computers. Others cannot.

Often times, the advantage is knowing. Since I know that I have obsessive compulsive disorder, I am more opt in controling the severity of it. However, OCD can be limited also with prescription medication. I prefer the advantage of knowing, as all medication has side effects and can be costly.
